Have you ever gone someplace that was so beautiful you could not wait to go again? Last year, my friends introduced me to the Geneva On the Lake Inn.  We coincided our stay to take in the annual MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale. This year, being 2020, the Barn Sale was cancelled due to the corona virus. Geneva on the Lake was better than any checked piece at the sale. I made reservations because I knew my husband would enjoy this special place that takes you to Italy if only in your make believe.

Geneva, New York is home to Hobart William Smith College and sits at the top point of Seneca Lake. Seneca Lake is the largest and deepest of all the Finger Lakes in New York. The lake is 32 miles long and at the other end you will find Watkins Glen known for its speedway and gorgeous State Park.

You will find over 50 wineries, and we visited one called Fox Run. We loved the dry Rose. There are plenty of places to eat and we were entertained at the FLX Table Restaurant. There are plenty off places for boating and water sports.

Despite the variety of things to do, I come for the pool. It’s the most beautiful pool I have ever swam in and I have had my share of beautiful pools. It’s deep, it’s refreshing, and it’s the style pool that is no longer made. You feel like you are part of the Great Gatsby movie.

The Geneva on the Lake Inn has a rich history. It was built in 1910 and is authentically Italian design. The Capuchin Francisanas took over from 1949 to 1974 and had a visit from Tony Bennett. You will see holy statues left along the lakeside.

Fortunately for us, the boutique hotel was restored and opened in 1981 for all of us to take advantage of its beauty.  I hope you will be able to enjoy a stay there.
